DVLA to roll out 24-hour services in Kumasi, Takoradi by January 2027 – CEO
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is set to introduce 24-hour services at its offices in Kumasi and Takoradi from January 2027 as part of efforts to expand access to its services beyond conventional working hours.
Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Julius Neequaye Kotey, disclosed this in an interview on Eyewitness News on Monday, October 12, 2026, explaining that the DVLA was assessing the operational capacity of its offices to determine which could sustain round-the-clock services.
“Currently, we are doing about 14 offices. When we check the books, it will speak to us,” Mr Kotey said, indicating that the expansion would be guided by the performance and capacity of the various offices.
He identified Kumasi and Takoradi as locations ready for the extended service, stating that both offices would begin operating around the clock in January.
“Kumasi and Takoradi, they qualify for 24 hours. So in January, they all start 24 hours,” he said.
Mr Kotey explained that the Authority currently provides 24-hour services at its Adenta office and its branch at Tema Port.
He clarified that the Tema Port office was accessible to the general public despite being located within the port area.
In addition to the two existing round-the-clock facilities, the DVLA has extended operating hours at its regional offices, which now serve customers from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The planned expansion is expected to give motorists and other customers in Kumasi and Takoradi greater flexibility in accessing DVLA services, particularly those who are unable to visit the offices during conventional working hours.
The initiative also aligns with Ghana’s broader 24-hour economy agenda, which seeks to promote economic activity and improve service delivery beyond the traditional working day.
The introduction of the extended services in the two cities would mark another step in the Authority’s efforts to make its operations more accessible and responsive to the needs of the public.
