Mahama: Ghana Prioritises Investment Over Global Power Rivalry
President John Dramani Mahama has urged investors from across the world to explore opportunities in Ghana, assuring them that the country remains open to partnerships with all nations, regardless of their political or economic affiliations.
He said Ghana’s foreign policy of non-alignment continues to shape its international relations, enabling the country to maintain cordial ties with global powers while pursuing investments that promote economic growth and deliver mutual benefits.
Speaking at the Financial Times Africa Summit 2026, President Mahama said Ghana was not interested in taking sides in the growing rivalry among major world powers but remained focused on attracting investments that would support its development agenda.
He encouraged investors from different regions to consider Ghana as a destination for their capital, emphasising the country’s readiness to engage international partners on the basis of shared interests, mutual respect and fair returns.
According to the President, Ghana’s priority is not the nationality of an investor but the potential of an investment to generate benefits for both the investor and the country.
“We are friends to all and enemies to none. And Ghana’s policy of non-alignment has served us well, and so we welcome investors from all over the world. It is not about competition. It is about investment and a fair return to everybody, including ourselves,” he said.
President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s willingness to work with major global economies, including the United States, the European Union, China and Russia, stressing that the country maintains friendly relations with all of them.
“And so that is the condition. There is no competition. We are as friendly to America, to EU, to China, and to Russia,” he added.
His remarks underscore Ghana’s commitment to pursuing an independent foreign policy while positioning the country as an attractive destination for international investment and partnerships that support sustainable economic development.
