Bawumia: “I’m humbled” as he thanks delegates and team
New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed gratitude to his campaign team and party stakeholders as provisional results from the party’s presidential primary show him leading the race, with over 50 percent of votes counted.
Speaking at his office in Accra on Saturday, January 31, after results from several constituencies began trickling in, Dr. Bawumia described the contest as a nationwide, hard-fought campaign and credited his progress to the collective effort of his supporters.
“Let me thank all of you. We’ve gone through a journey. It’s been a fierce battle across the country, across all the regions, and we couldn’t have gotten here without the support of the team around me,” he said.
He commended his campaign leadership, including National Campaign Coordinator Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Campaign Manager Fred Opare Ansah, as well as Members of Parliament who supported his bid. Dr. Bawumia also thanked party executives, the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media for ensuring a smooth election process.
Paying tribute to past party leaders such as Prof. Adu Boahen, former President J.A. Kufuor, and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, he said their efforts laid the foundation for the party’s growth.
“It is really humbling that I have been elected to continue the work they started,” he added, also acknowledging contributions from former Members of Parliament.
Provisional results from constituencies nationwide indicate Dr. Bawumia is leading in key strongholds, reinforcing his projected advantage as counting continues across the country.
