Police return GHC85,000 discovered on highway to Its owner
The Bono East Regional Police Command has returned a bag containing GHC 85,000 to its rightful owner after it was discovered abandoned along the Techiman–Kumasi Highway.
According to a police statement, officers stationed at a snap check point found the bag at about 4:20 a.m. on February 14, 2026. The bag, believed to have fallen from a moving vehicle, had the name “Ofori” and a contact number written on it.
The team, led by Inspector George Appiah, secured the bag and forwarded it to the regional command for proper verification.
Police later called the number on the bag and reached 53-year-old businessman Stephen Ofori, who resides in Ashtown, Kumasi. He confirmed ownership of the money, explaining that the GHC 85,000 had been transported from GCB Bank in Wa to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle.
Authorities said the cash was counted and verified in Ofori’s presence before the entire amount was handed back to him.
The regional command praised the officers for their professionalism and also expressed appreciation to members of the public who assisted by drawing attention to the abandoned bag.
