Jinapor pledges reliable and affordable energy supply for Ghana in 2027
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has engaged the leadership of agencies and institutions under his ministry to review their 2026 performance and outline key priorities for 2027, with a focus on delivering reliable and affordable energy to Ghanaians.
The meeting provided an opportunity to assess progress in the energy sector, address outstanding challenges and identify measures to strengthen operational efficiency, accountability and service delivery in the coming year.
Dr Jinapor said the government had made significant strides towards improving Ghana’s energy security despite persistent challenges confronting the sector.
Key developments highlighted during the engagement included plans to install 3,000 transformers, progress in electricity generation, an increase in national electricity access to 89.13 per cent and renewed efforts to revitalise domestic oil refining.
The minister emphasised the need for agencies and institutions to translate government policies and commitments into tangible results, stressing that accountability, transparency, efficiency and value for money must guide their operations.
He urged the leadership of the various institutions to demonstrate measurable improvements in performance, warning that unnecessary delays and persistent underperformance would not be tolerated.
Dr Jinapor said the government’s priorities for 2027 would focus on building a reliable, affordable, sustainable and resilient energy sector capable of supporting economic growth and improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
He further underscored the importance of stronger collaboration and coordination among agencies under the ministry to ensure that planned interventions are implemented effectively and deliver practical benefits to households and businesses nationwide.
The engagement forms part of efforts to strengthen institutional performance and align the operations of agencies under the ministry with the government’s broader energy sector objectives for 2027.
