ECG to roll out franchise officers nationwide starting February
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced plans to roll out franchise officers nationwide across all district operational areas starting February 2026. This initiative aims to boost operational efficiency and enhance service delivery.
Franchise officers will assist ECG in various field operations, such as reading postpaid meters, verifying prepaid meter integrity, distributing and printing postpaid bills on-site using handheld devices, and supporting customers with payments through authorized digital platforms, including the ECG Power App and the short code *226#. The company has emphasized that cash payments will not be accepted.
Additionally, these officers will be tasked with disconnecting customers with overdue accounts and identifying and reporting illegal electricity activities for further action.
Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, ECG’s General Manager for External Relations, in an interview, explained that the move is part of the company’s wider strategy to make services more accessible and improve both accountability and revenue collection. “The franchise officer initiative is designed to enhance customer convenience, improve billing accuracy, and strengthen ECG’s community-level engagement. By decentralizing these services, we ensure that customers receive timely and efficient support right at their doorsteps,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of customer safety and transparency, urging the public to verify the identity of franchise officers before engaging with them. “All franchise officers will carry official ECG identification cards and signed authorization letters from their respective districts. Customers should always ask for these documents as proof of authenticity,” Dr. Ayiku advised.
Furthermore, the initiative is expected to help combat electricity theft and other illegal activities, ultimately improving service reliability and sustainability.

The franchise officer deployment underscores ECG’s ongoing commitment to providing efficient, transparent, and customer-centric electricity services nationwide.
