2026 hajj booked out; wait until next year - President Mahama Urges Pilgrims
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana’s quota for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage has been fully exhausted. He has therefore urged Muslims who were unable to complete their registration before the deadline to remain patient and begin preparations for the 2027 pilgrimage.
The President explained that the registration process was conducted smoothly and transparently through close collaboration between the government and Islamic authorities. However, he noted that the strict quota imposed by Saudi Arabia makes it impossible to admit additional pilgrims this year.
President Mahama also encouraged prospective pilgrims to plan well in advance for future Hajj seasons to avoid similar setbacks, while commending the Hajj Task Force for ongoing improvements aimed at enhancing the experience for Ghanaian pilgrims.
Muslim community leaders have welcomed the announcement and have called on worshippers to adhere strictly to official registration schedules in the future.
Despite the limitations, thousands of Ghanaian Muslims are expected to participate in the 2026 Hajj, upholding Ghana’s long-standing tradition of involvement in the annual pilgrimage.
