Amenfi Central MP Urges Women to Focus on Empowerment, Not Gossip
The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has urged women to abandon the notion that women are their own enemies and instead focus on empowering themselves to achieve greater success in life.
Speaking in an interview on the programme “Ghana Mpuntu” on Sekunde 107.5 FM with host General Obey, the legislator described the popular statement that women are their own enemies as misleading and often used by people who lack purpose in life.
According to her, women who are determined to succeed do not waste time gossiping about others but rather support one another to gain a stronger voice in society.
Hon. Gyan Cudjoe explained that mature and focused women are usually committed to achieving their goals and helping other women grow, instead of engaging in unhealthy rivalry.
She noted that gossip among women often arises when individuals lack direction or meaningful engagement. She therefore advised women to surround themselves with people who can positively influence their ambitions.
“Do not force yourself to be friends with someone who does not like you. Instead, find women who can help you achieve your dreams and build meaningful relationships with them,” she said.
The Amenfi Central lawmaker also emphasized the importance of financial independence for women, especially widows, warning that dependency can expose women to exploitation.
She encouraged women to respect themselves and avoid situations where they feel compelled to rely on men for financial survival.
“It is unfortunate for a woman to engage in relationships solely because of financial difficulties. Women must be conscious of their finances and work hard to sustain themselves,” she stated.
Hon. Gyan Cudjoe further advised women to position themselves well in society by understanding economic opportunities and contributing to national development.
According to her, when women become financially responsible and economically informed, they are better able to withstand challenges and make meaningful contributions to their families and the country.
She concluded by calling on women to ignore unnecessary gossip and focus on self-development, empowerment, and making a positive impact in society.
