Finance Minister signs $12.8m AfDB grant for Big Push Projects
The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has signed a US$12.83 million grant agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to fund feasibility studies and design development for key infrastructure projects under the Government’s Big Push programme.
The agreement was executed with the AfDB’s outgoing Country Manager in Ghana, Ms. Eyerusalem Fasika.
The grant will finance comprehensive feasibility studies, including detailed designs, cost estimates, and environmental and social impact assessments, for a proposed interchange at the 37 Military Hospital to help ease traffic congestion in Accra.
Additionally, the funding will support feasibility studies and full designs for the redevelopment of four modern markets in Agbogbloshie, Techiman, Sekondi, and Mankessim, as well as in-depth studies for the establishment of Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones in the Afram Plains, Nsawam, and Builsa.
Dr. Forson expressed appreciation to the AfDB, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana, for the Bank’s continued partnership and support. He commended Ms. Fasika for her meticulous and results-oriented leadership, noting that Ghana secured substantial financial resources and technical assistance from the AfDB during her tenure.
He further expressed optimism that the feasibility studies would be completed in time to enable construction to begin, potentially by the third quarter.
In her remarks, Ms. Fasika thanked the Government of Ghana for the strong cooperation and support extended to the AfDB, emphasizing the close collaboration between both parties in achieving these milestones.
“Together, we have given it our best shot,” she said, reaffirming the AfDB’s commitment to Ghana’s development agenda.
