Court reduces Nana Agradaa’s 15-year sentence to 12 months
The Amasaman High Court has reduced the 15-year prison sentence imposed on controversial evangelist Nana Agradaa to 12 calendar months, describing the original punishment as harsh and excessive.
In its ruling, the court upheld her conviction but exercised its discretionary powers to vary the sentence, cutting it down from the 15 years of hard labour earlier imposed by the trial court.
The revised sentence takes effect from July 3, 2025—the date of her conviction—meaning Nana Agradaa will serve a total of 12 months in prison.
The court held that while the offences for which she was convicted warranted punishment, the severity of the initial sentence was disproportionate under the circumstances, thereby justifying a downward adjustment.
Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess turned evangelist, was convicted of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence. She was found guilty of luring victims through a televised broadcast in 2022, during which she falsely claimed to possess spiritual powers capable of doubling money.
These claims led several individuals to part with substantial sums of money in anticipation of miraculous financial returns—promises that were never fulfilled.
