Baba Jamal wins NDC primary in Ayawaso East
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The primary, held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, was organized to select the party’s candidate for the upcoming by-election. Five aspirants contested the race after successfully passing the party’s vetting process.

Baba Jamal faced competition from Mohammed Ramme, the NDC Constituency Chairman; Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament; Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed.
The closely contested primary attracted considerable public attention, with delegates turning out in significant numbers. Baba Jamal’s victory followed an intense campaign period marked by widespread interest.
Ahead of the election, delegates received 32-inch television sets and boiled eggs from Baba Jamal’s campaign team. The candidate maintained that the items were gestures of goodwill and not intended to influence the voting outcome.
