Give Kennedy Agyapong time to reflect after presidential primary — Kwasi Kwarteng
The Spokesperson for the campaign of Kennedy Agyapong, Kwasi Kwarteng, has called on supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the general public to give the former Assin Central MP time to reflect after the party’s recent presidential primary.
His appeal follows social media speculation that Mr Agyapong may be distancing himself from the party, particularly after he was absent from the NPP’s thanksgiving service held at the UPSA Auditorium on Sunday, February 15.
In an interview, Mr Kwarteng dismissed suggestions of a rift, insisting that Mr Agyapong remains firmly committed to the party and that his absence from the event should not be misconstrued.
“He is still a member of the NPP. He has not and will not break away from the NPP. In relation to his absence yesterday at the event, he was out of town. His commitment to the party remains unshaken, unbroken and will remain high,” he said.
Mr Kwarteng noted that the just-ended primary was tense and emotionally charged, arguing that Mr Agyapong deserves space to process the experience.
“Out of respect, we should allow people time to reflect. For nearly a year, one person has been accused of orchestrating the party’s 2024 defeat, told his comments were divisive, and faced several other allegations.
“He is human. He has his low and high moments. After such a heated contest marked by accusations, it is only fair that he is given some room to reflect,” he added.
