NPP releases timetable and modalities for internal elections
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has released a comprehensive timetable and guidelines for its upcoming internal elections, following the successful presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, which elected Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer.
At a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, detailed the roadmap for the registration of members and the conduct of elections from the polling station to the constituency level.
He announced that the process for registering party members will run from March 1 to March 31, 2026, followed by data entry from April 1 to April 10 and a verification exercise from April 14 to April 16.
Mr. Frimpong explained that the internal electoral process will begin at the polling station level, where nominations will open from April 20 to April 24. Vetting of aspirants will take place between April 25 and April 30, while appeals will be received from May 1 to May 4. Notices of poll are scheduled for May 6 to May 9, with elections for polling station executives to be held from May 10 to May 16. Data entry and validation of the polling station executives’ album will occur from April 17 to April 21.
The party will subsequently conduct elections for electoral area executives. Nominations for these positions will be taken from May 23 to May 25, followed by vetting from May 26 to May 31. The appeals process will run from June 1 to June 4, while notices of poll will be issued between June 5 and June 8. Elections are slated for June 10 to June 15, with data entry and validation of results scheduled for June 16 to June 20.
Mr. Frimpong noted that the constituency executive committee and the regional steering committee will be responsible for the various activities, under the supervision of the national secretariat.
For the constituency executive elections, nominations will open from June 22 to June 24, with vetting from June 25 to June 27 and appeals from June 28 to June 30. Notices of poll will be issued between July 2 and July 5, while the elections themselves will take place from July 11 to July 12. Data entry of the constituency album will then be carried out from July 13 to July 26.
The party leadership expressed confidence that the outlined schedule will promote transparency, fairness and broad participation in the NPP’s internal democratic process.
