Mahama Commissions GH¢59m Expansion of Nestlé Ghana Milk Plant
President John Dramani Mahama has commissioned an expanded evaporated milk production line at Nestlé Ghana’s factory in Tema following a GH¢59 million modernisation project aimed at boosting production capacity, enhancing operational efficiency and meeting demand in domestic and regional markets.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, underscored the government’s commitment to creating a stable economic environment to attract investment and promote growth in the manufacturing sector.
Speaking at the event, President Mahama emphasised the importance of predictable fiscal policies, low inflation, stable foreign exchange rates and reliable energy supply in encouraging businesses to invest and expand their operations.
He assured investors that the government would continue to pursue policies aimed at maintaining macroeconomic stability and improving critical infrastructure to support industrial development.
“Capital goes where it is safe, but it stays and expands where there is stability and supporting infrastructure,” President Mahama said.
He added that the government would sustain efforts to ensure reliable electricity supply and favourable economic conditions to accelerate industrial transformation and strengthen local manufacturing.
Meanwhile, Nestlé Ghana’s Managing Director, Salome Azevedo, reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to the country, describing the expansion as a reflection of its confidence in Ghana’s manufacturing sector and economic prospects.
“This milestone is more than the completion of a major investment; it is a strong expression of Nestlé’s confidence in Ghana, our enduring commitment to local manufacturing, and our conviction that Ghana will continue to play a leading role in the future of Central and West Africa,” she said.
The latest investment builds on Nestlé Ghana’s earlier expenditure of GH¢175.4 million on a cereal production line, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to expanding its manufacturing operations in the country.
The company also announced plans to invest an additional GH¢138 million to double its Milo production capacity and install another evaporated milk production line.
The planned investments are expected to increase local production capacity, strengthen supply chains and enhance Ghana’s role as a manufacturing hub serving markets across Central and West Africa.
The expansion forms part of broader efforts to deepen industrial development, attract private-sector investment and create opportunities for Ghana to increase its manufacturing output and regional market presence.
