NPP Primaries: Bryan, Ken Agyapong Congratulate Bawumia on Lead
Presidential hopefuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Kwabena Agyapong, have congratulated former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia following provisional results projecting him as the winner of the party’s flagbearer primary.
The congratulatory messages were delivered in phone calls to Dr. Bawumia after early results showed him in a commanding lead across several constituencies.
Dr. Acheampong said that, while he had hoped to win, he respects the delegates’ decision, describing the outcome as divinely guided and reflective of the party’s democratic will. He also thanked the delegates who supported him and affirmed his acceptance of the results in the spirit of unity and internal democracy.
“I just called to congratulate you on a very good election. You have done well. This is a God factor, so let us keep it like that. My big brother, congratulations. Democracy has won, the internal election has won. We are very happy with the results that we got,” he said.
Meanwhile, fellow aspirant Kennedy Ohene Agyapong also reached out to Dr. Bawumia, offering an apology for remarks he made about him during the campaign, which he later described as unacceptable.
These gestures of goodwill come amid efforts to swiftly unify the party following the closely watched contest, as leaders and aspirants emphasize cohesion ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Provisional results indicate Dr. Bawumia has polled over 90,000 votes, with the remaining candidates sharing roughly 50,000 votes, further solidifying his projected victory as collation continues.
