Western region will become NDC stronghold before I leave office as Regional Chairman — Nana Toku
The Western Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reiterated his determination to transform the Western Region into a stronghold of the party before the end of his tenure.
According to him, the region will become the “World Bank” of the NDC and a no-go area for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by the time he exits office. He observed that the Western Region is currently considered a swing region, where both the NDC and the NPP can win elections depending on the performance of the party in government.
The Western Regional Chairman made these remarks during a radio interview with General Obey, host of Sekunde FM’s morning show, “Ghana Mpuntu”, in Sekondi.
Nana Kojo Toku also announced his intention to contest again for the position of the regional chairmanship position in the upcoming regional elections, stating that he seeks to consolidate the gains made by the party over the years.
He said he assumed office at a time when the NDC held only four parliamentary seats in the region, but through sustained efforts, the party increased its representation to eight seats in the 2020 general elections. He added that in the 2024 elections, the party, with the support of his team, secured 15 out of the 17 parliamentary seats in the region, expressing confidence that the remaining two seats would be won in the 2028 general elections.
Nana Toku appealed to party delegates to support his re-election bid, urging them to maintain him in office to continue what he described as his good work to make the NDC more attractive to voters in the region.
He expressed optimism about achieving his vision, citing the party’s steady growth over the past eight years as evidence of its expanding influence in the Western Region.
He further assured party members that he remains committed to strengthening the party and leaving behind a solid legacy for future leadership.
The Regional Chairman called on party members and sympathizers to rally behind the vision, stressing that the NDC remains the only political party capable of redeeming both the Western Region and the nation.
“My aim for the NDC in the Western Region is to make it a second Volta Region, where it will become a stronghold for the party in the next general election and beyond,” he said.
