Baba Jamal thanks Allah, calls for unity after Ayawaso East victory
Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has expressed gratitude to Allah, his supporters, and fellow contestants after winning the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.
Speaking after the declaration of results on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Baba Jamal described the campaign period as demanding and emotionally taxing for himself, his family, and his supporters. He said his victory was by the grace of Allah and thanked God for guiding him through what he described as a hectic and challenging process.
He expressed appreciation to the presidency, members of the media, ministers, parliamentarians, his constituents, and his campaign team, whom he credited for executing an intensive campaign within a short two-week period.
Baba Jamal congratulated his fellow aspirants, emphasizing that the outcome of the primary was not a personal victory but one for the entire party. He noted that internal party contests are naturally competitive and must produce a winner, and therefore called on all contestants to unite and work together to secure victory for the NDC in the upcoming by-election.
He said the contest brought out the best in him and would strengthen his resolve to work harder to retain the seat for the party. Baba Jamal assured party members and constituents that his doors remain open to everyone, including those who contested against him, and expressed gratitude to his family for their patience and sacrifices during the campaign period.
He concluded by offering prayers for continued blessings and expressing optimism about collaborating with supporters to bring development to the Ayawaso East Constituency.
In the final results, Baba Jamal polled 431 votes to win the primary, narrowly defeating Hajia Amina Adam, who secured 399 votes. Mohammed Ramme garnered 88 votes, Dr. Yakubu Azindow obtained 45 votes, while Mohammed Najib received one vote. The closely contested primary attracted significant public attention, particularly amid earlier debates surrounding campaign conduct.
With the primary concluded, Baba Jamal will lead the NDC into the Ayawaso East by-election as the party seeks to retain the seat.
