Newly posted teachers give Ghana Education Service one-month deadline over unpaid salaries and Staff IDs
The 2024 batch of newly posted teachers has given the Ghana Education Service a one-month deadline to resolve delays in issuing staff IDs and paying their salaries, warning that failure to act could trigger stronger measures.
On Wednesday, February 18, the group picketed at the GES headquarters to protest the non-issuance of staff IDs and up to 14 months of unpaid salaries.
The teachers said their documents could not be traced at the national office, despite assurances from district and regional authorities that submissions had been made.
Daniel Aidoo, convenor of the 2024 batch of unpaid teachers, told reporters that the situation has persisted since 2024, preventing them from being placed on the payroll even after receiving financial clearance and actively working in schools.
“Some of us haven’t been paid for 12 months, others for 14 months. All we are demanding is that we receive our staff IDs and are formally recognized as teachers employed by the Ministry of Education and GES. Whoever is responsible for issuing these IDs must be held accountable,” Aidoo said.
He added, “This cycle should not continue and affect future batches. We submitted all documents to the National HR office as instructed. If there is further delay, we will take action within one month.”
