Mahama calls for collective responsibility in safeguarding national security
President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated the government’s commitment to sustaining a strong and resilient armed forces, despite prevailing resource constraints, amid an increasingly complex and volatile security environment.
Speaking at the Ghana Military Academy Graduation on Friday, January 30, President Mahama said the commissioning of new officers, even in challenging economic times, reflects the state’s resolve to protect national security.
He noted that Ghana and the wider sub-region continue to face significant security threats, particularly along the country’s northern borders, citing violent extremism, terrorism, and trans-border crime as major concerns.
President Mahama also drew attention to the evolving nature of global security challenges, marked by the growing influence of non-state actors and the rise of asymmetric warfare.
He emphasized that responding effectively to these threats requires a coordinated national effort, stressing that security is not the sole responsibility of the armed forces and security agencies but a shared national duty.
