GoldBod suspends certain gold buying licence applications
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the immediate suspension of new applications for selected categories of gold buying licences as part of ongoing efforts to reform and modernise Ghana’s gold trading sector.

In a press release on Monday, February 16, GoldBod stated that the suspension applies to fresh applications for Tier 1 and Tier 2 Buying Licences, as well as the Self-Financing Aggregator Licence, effective immediately. During this period, the Aggregator Licence will remain the only category open to new applicants.
The Board reassured stakeholders that applications submitted prior to the announcement will continue to be processed. Pending applications will be fast-tracked, provided applicants meet all regulatory requirements and have paid the necessary fees. “The Board will expedite the review and issuance of pending buying licensing applications, provided applicants meet all regulatory requirements and have fulfilled the necessary fee obligations,” the statement said.
GoldBod explained that the suspension is part of broader reforms to the national gold buying framework, aimed at enhancing transparency, strengthening compliance, improving traceability, and ensuring greater value retention within Ghana’s gold trading ecosystem.
The Board emphasised its commitment to collaborating with stakeholders across the gold value chain to establish a robust, accountable, and internationally competitive gold trading regime that protects Ghana’s national interests. Further updates on the reform process and the revised licensing framework will be communicated in due course.
